Hostess with the Mostess (Part 1)

After hearing about the Hostess with the Mostess Blog, I have been following it ever since. It is one of my favorite blogs previewing some of the most adorable and creative parties I've ever seen. I especially love it because all of the parties that are showcased are sent in from real people and are categorized in a way that makes it easy to view.
The themes range from camp out birthday parties for kids to the all around glamorous bachelorette party to the guys night of keggers or vegas theme.

I wanted to show of my favorite themes that have totally inspired me and I can't wait to recreate for my own clients.

Motivation from Marley Majcher

I get a weekly E-Zine from Marley Majcher and I love getting them because they are little pick me ups whether I need them or not. I really want to share this week's on my blog because it was exactly what I needed after a long week of job hunting and working on my business plan:

7 Tips to stay motivated- by the wonderful Marley Majcher- Leading Entertainment Expert and Entrepreneur, TV Personality, Coach, Author, and Sought After Speaker, Marley Majcher is CEO of The Party Goddess! and publisher of the ezine "But Are You Making Any Money". If you are ready to take your career or business to the next level, make more money, and just be happier with your work life, then get your free tips atwww.butareyoumakinganymoney.com.

When you’re an entrepreneur, you’re often burning the candle at both ends. Sometimes you don’t see the financial returns as quickly as you’d like. And it’s not uncommon for your family and closest friends to have not even the slightest clue what you’re going through.  By now you’ve realized that business isn’t all about freedom, glitz, and glamour.  You’ve noticed it can be downright boring and tedious some days. This is a recipe for burn out, my friend. And it’s so common it’s like an epidemic. So if you notice your motivation slipping away, you’re not alone.Listen, you want to make this thing work.  You want your business to be a big success. Otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this blog.  But to do this, you’ll have to keep your frustrations at bay and hop on the motivation party bus with me.
Here are 7 tips you can use to stay motivated:
1. Write Your Vision & Read it Daily- Writing a big crazy out-there vision of exactly what your absolute dream business looks like is a powerful motivational exercise. I’m talking a no holds barred, ridiculous, outrageously big dream vision of the ideal business for you.   Write it as if you’ve already achieved it, as if you’re already there.  Go into every nitty -  gritty detail of an ideal day-in-the life.  When you’re done, print it out and keep it in an easily accessible place on your desk.  And read it every day. Not just the days you’re feeling down. Every single day.  This way, you’ll remember what you’re working toward.
2. Write Your Day From Hell & Read it When You Need It- Remember that job you really hated?  The one that made you walk away and start your own business?  Even if you liked your job – remember that creeping, almost suffocating feeling that made you want to break out on your own?  Capture it in a snapshot of your worst day ever, written down like a journal entry.  Put it in your desk, under your vision.  On days when you just want to throw in the towel, pull it out and read it as a reminder that you’re better off building your own business.
3. Break It Down Into Smaller Pieces- Whatever it is that feels big and overwhelming in the moment, break it down into small, bite-sized, easily digestible chunks.  Big goals, daunting projects, mundane tasks – they’re all a lot easier to handle when you don’t allow yourself to get buried.  Make each finish line close enough to see, and reward yourself as you reach each tiny goal.
4. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others- Let me say it again. Stop comparing yourself to others. Stop it.  We all do it, and it’s ridiculously unproductive. Comparing yourself to other people can be the biggest motivation zapper out there.   I think it starts off innocently enough – we’re looking for motivation, but then it quickly spirals into feeling sorry for ourselves. You don’t know that person’s story. You don’t know what she’s been through or how she got there.  Focus on your own successes, no matter how small, and build from there.  Every time your thoughts start drifting to Miss. Suzy Perfect, look in the mirror and tell yourself you’re good enough, smart enough… and whatever else Stuart Smalley used to say on SNL.
5. Make Some Money- Being short on cash flow can drain all the motivation juices out of anyone.  It’s not easy to keep going with a smile on your face when you don’t know how you’re going to pay your bills, or when you’ll be able to finally contribute to your family’s income.  If you’re short on cash because you’re focused on big projects with paydays somewhere far off in the horizon, pause for a moment.  Sometimes you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do. Find a way for a quick cash infusion into your business.  Reach out to your network for consulting opportunities or host a simple workshop. Do something to bring in some money right away, and you’ll feel a lot better.
6. Do Something You Love- When you’re feeling particularly stuck, set the tedious stuff aside and do something related to your business that you enjoy.  Set aside the books and write a blog post, set aside the writing and make follow-up phone calls, put down the phone and sketch a new design.  Just a few moments of the things that energize you most in your business will offset the drudge of doing what you hate.
7. Get Connected- I saved the most important piece for last. It’s critical that you join a networking group,  mastermind, coaching program, or some other structured organization of like-minded entrepreneurs who experience similar struggles.  There’s nothing like the comfort of knowing you’re not alone in this.  Your fellow entrepreneurs will get those motivation juices flowing again in no time.
I’d love to know your favorite tips for staying motivated. What do you do to keep your spirits up and keep pushing forward in your business?

Dylan Lauren's Candy-Themed Bridal Shower

I came across the most adorable bridal shower party for Dylan Lauren (Daughter of Ralph Lauren and owner of Dylan's Candy Bar) in this month's issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. Not only is the amount of detail that went into this party amazing, it perfectly resembles Dylan considering her creative entrepreneurial spirit and her love for all things sugar. I've shown just a couple of the elements that went into this party:
The Invitation- Dylan invited her guests to the sweet soiree with a strawberry chocolate bar imprinted with D&P for Dylan and Paul.

The Drink- A tray lined with jelly beans perfectly showcases the drink of the night, a lemon drop cocktail.

The Welcome- All of Dylan's guests first impressions of the party were full of sweetness as they saw a candy display of love. The heart mosaic in the background was made out of gum, a cheap way to make a colorful and creative space out of a blank one.

Favors- Every good party has a fun take-home. These candy rings are actually very easy to recreate! Get the instructions here.

The Food- I'm pretty sure that if the only thing served was candy, a major sugar high could crash this party. So some super yummy cuisine was involved. Mini burgers and mini calamari with ahi tuna was just a sample of the delectable treats.

The Guests-  Considering the theme was so modern and retro,  the guests are wearing a more sophisticated black and white color palette to make up for the child-like theme! That shows their true classiness.

The Candy Bar- My favorite part of the entire party is the candy bar. I love the concept of all you can eat candy. Lately a candy buffet is all the rage.

The Guestbook- personalized pencils and notecards made the perfect farewell to the evening so that "sweet wishes" can always and forever be read over and over again. Get the how-to and printable stationary here.

Bollywood Inspirations

India/Bollywood trends have been in style for awhile now. But lately I have seen this trend more than ever. Here are a couple of things I have seen in the past month that really inspire me.
Cupcake Wars- two weeks ago the theme for cupcake wars on Food Network was Bollywood Bake-Off. Cupcakes infused with the flavors of mango chutney, coriander and curry looked to die for.

Music Videos-
Wow. I have seen some SUPER HOT indian music videos lately.

Jewlery-

All of these pieces are found at Forever 21 right now and are each under $10
Feathers-
Feathers in the hair or feathers on earrings lately have looked like they have come straight from a peacock in India.

Part III of Laddi and Karen wed!

I wasn't able to upload anything yesterday because the whole day consumed of breathing for a second once we got back from the wedding and then getting ready for the reception partay!
So I will post pictures from the actual wedding today and then I'll post pictures from the reception tomorrow!!
Karen (the bride) and I! She looked so beautiful!

Laddi and Karen getting married! This is one of my favorite parts!! First Laddi walks into the temple hall  with his groom's men behind and then Karen follows and sits next to her husband-to-be. They then continue with the ceremony and walk around the altar four times until all the prayers are said.

I love my little cousin Jasmine. She is such a good girl, so polite, and super adddorabble!!!

I was obsessed with her Sari so I had to post a pic. I want it!

These are the men who sing all the chants during the wedding. They sit right next to the altar

All of the women sit on one side of the hall while the guys sit on the other side.

My other little cousins Karina and Ashan!

Jasmine was very proud of her henna.

This was in the food hall where we eat. Usually this temple isn't as decorate but they did an amazing job with decor. It was very detailed and the color scheme of pink and gold was very classy and trendy at the same time.

CUTE centerpieces!!
